Thanks for clarifying, I didn’t think there was a fixed deadline for CROPP…

A great example of community engagement. We are not worthy, I guess.

I can’t speak for anyone else but I certainly think it’d make sense for you to be there, someone needs to point out that oh by the way there actually are CS people involved in ICANN already and here’s how you can connect with them etc.

It would be good to hear from the rest of the EC if they agree. If so you could go ahead and fill out the CROPP form.

Best

The purpose of the CROPP program is not to train us in the ways of IP address management. It is to do outreach to potential new members who might be drawn into the GNSOsphere. Personally, I think we are more likely to find new members at the sorts of meetings we’ve discussed already than among numbers folks. That said, if someone wants to attend an RIR meeting and there’s no better option for slot usage in the given region, sure.
>
> To recap: to date, a) I’ve said I want to apply for support to attend EuroDIG, b) Stefi has said the same*, and c) Rafik would like to apply to do Rightscon. So that’s three very viable options for outreach (we need to redistribute the brochures a bit, I have them all). Two other slots have no expressions of interest yet. Again, bear in mind that the travel must be in region, and Rob has clarified that the five slots can be allocated to taste, not just one per region (e.g. Stefi and I can both request support for within Europe).

When the program was established we were told to identify contact points who’d be our coordinators; Pranesh and I volunteered, but it’s not really obvious what our specific roles would be in this context. I’d think that we could simply identify 5 trips we agree people should apply for and then each person fills out the forms themselves.
>
> As for this cycle we have two expressions of interest for Europe and one for Asia, can we identify two other meetings before end June (preferably in other regions) people might want to apply for? We could certainly use outreach to potential members from everywhere, including NA, where there’s lots of Internet-oriented groups that have not yet chosen to allocate bandwidth to ICANN…
>
> Finally, do recall that I’ve announced the CROPP thing several times on the members list and received no expressions of interest from regular members. We could try again, but first it’d be good to know if anyone here (who is presumably more engaged and outreach-oriented than normal) has anything they’d like to have considered.

Apparently there are about 11 of them a year in the different regions and our more "techy" minded members in those regions could participate there. We should explore this possibility in the coming months.

Send I guess a formal message saying this is what and why and after the EC says yes we will have to figure out how one applies. I suspect Pranesh is not going to make good on this commitment either so it will fall to me to figure it out.
