[NCUC-EC] FW: Proposed program outline for ICANN 77 workshoip

EC:
Here is the last message I received from Ken and Ben. Note that it says "Indeed, we should know the venue, if not the actual room number. But we won't know the date."

I told you I would wait. Until I threw a temper tantrum on the EC list, I got no instructions for a week.
We are DANGEROUSLY late.

You may be thinking of the "Scheduled" NCUS/NPOC session.

The sign-up rooms are different, as I explained. Indeed, we should know the venue, if not the actual room number. But we won't know the date. Nevertheless, I will try to press for an early decision given the situation. This is what Andrea told us:

  * According to Andrea, we know know any of the details until shortly before the meeting starts, but I'll check with her

Surely we know what day and time we have the room, and what building it is in? Wasn't it Tuesday afternoon?

Also, best to come to some decisions about the structure of the event (speeches, panel, etc) before inviting guests so we can tell them what we expect.

Hopefully we can settle all these details in the next few days.

I will invite some of the important speakers (NTIA, DC-civil society groups) but I need confirmation of the day and time and if possible room number or at least name of the hotel.

Regarding the scheduled NCUC sessions, I don't think it's a good idea to create ambiguity about when and where this program is going to be held at this point. Let's get the program of the special session set, and then you can talk about including some of it in the scheduled session.

Hello Milton.

Thanks again for the proposed programme. At its meeting last week, the EC agreed this would be a good programme, with the main comment being that perhaps some of this topic be also included as part of the scheduled NCUC session at ICANN77. Remember that there is already a 90 minute scheduled session that is shared between NCUC and NPOC (there is a separate NCSG meeting). We are working on an agenda for the scheduled meeting.

This programme would be for a "sign-up" room, which has been requested and won't be assigned until a few days before the start of ICANN77. These sign-ups are not included in the meeting programme, nor do they include any A/V. We expect to utilize the promised PIR funding for A/V and publicity.

Next steps for this special session is to finalize the programme, and I can work with you and Farzaneh this week. Great if we can touch base in the next few days.

Thanks again.

Ken

Access to DNS in the Age of Sanctions and Trade Barriers

This workshop will examine the way nation-state power conflicts erect barriers to global internet access, focusing on DNS. It would cover topics such as how sanctions affect the provision of DNS services, how ICANN's global policies and contracts intersect with foreign policy pressures, and how certain forms of social media regulations affect Internet access throughout the world. It will explore how Noncommercial stakeholders in the ICANN environment can address those problems.

Invited Speakers:

* Farzaneh Badiei, Digital Medusa on her sanctions work

* Alan Davidson or Susan Chalmers, NTIA, on U.S. OFAC and its relationship to ICANN

* Someone from ICANN legal on implementation of Workstream 2 (general OFAC license)

* Greg Nojeim from CDT

* Milton Mueller, GT IGP on the TikTok ban

* Kathleen Burke from Public Knowledge kathleen at publicknowledge.org<mailto:kathleen at publicknowledge.org> on DNS access restrictions from copyright and trademark interests

* Invite PIR to address sanctions

* TWNIC on cross-strait barriers to Internet access in Asia

There would be 4 15-minute presentations from key speakers (Badiei, Davidson, ICANN, Mueller) would be followed by a roundtable discussion featuring:

  *   Nojeim, CDT
  *   PIR
  *   TWNIC
  *   Public Knowledge or EFF
  *   Others?
