Dear Tapani, EC members,

Excited to hear about this message. I have ever learnt something about the Mentor Pilot Program when I was in ICANN 49, the Singapore Meeting.

I agree with you that  we do a public call for candidates. 
Since ICANN is intended to promote this program, by doing a public call, we could make the Mentor Pilot Prgoram known to NCUCers within the whole Constituency.

Then, the key is how to set the selection criteria.

My idea is, to name but  a few, :

1. Time (for both the Mentor and Mentee)
Each week both the Mentor and Mentee should allocate two hours meeting online in their agreed-upon timeframe.
So candidates must ensure they have time.
To enforce this as strict standard, the Mentor should record the real timestamp when the Mentor and Mentee are online.

2. Knowledge about ICANN (for the Mentor only)

According to the Mentor Pilot Program, we need one Mentor, who is an ICANN  veteran.  We need one who has strong wish to educate and mentor new guys and could come up with an idea of coaching, for instance, a specific area or subject.

One could know ICANN very well.  We have quite a lot of choices in NCUC.

3. Knowledge about ICANN  (for the Mentee only)

I propose we select a newbie, unfamiliar with ICANN. We need him/her to be engaged with enthusiam and sustained interest.

4. Diversity
In terms of diversity, we could select one from Africa, MEMA region or the Latin region. Lady is preferred.

5. Records and documentation (for both the Mentor and the Mentee)

We need the Mentor to draft a brief coaching presentation and documentation. And the Mentor should record their time of being online.

6. The final decision regarding selection of the Mentor and Mentee candidates rests upon the EC.

When the EC makes the final selection, it must deliver its rationale.

Only my rough thoughts, just to start the discussion.  Please do correct me.

This is urgent. Need your ideas, views.

All,

ICANN is doing a pilot mentoring program, starting in Marrakech,
and is asking constituencies to name Mentors and Mentees, one each.

As Rafik left me a quick note saying he'll be offline for several
days and this is urgent, I'm taking it on myself to bring this
to your consideration, and will relay the decision to ICANN.

If you prefer to have one of you, NCUC EC members proper,
handle this, I will of course be happy to leave it to you.

But: Two names are needed: one experiend ICANN veteran as mentor,
and one newbie as mentee.

They want names as soon as possible, preferably on Monday.

I'll attach guide to the program. Note that both mentor and mentee
are expected to carry on with Skype and web conferences &c between
meetings, so it's a significant time commitment.

I don't know if there will be travel support to later meetings.
Probably ICANN doesn't know either.

Suggestions welcome, either names directly or ideas how to do the
selection, should we call for volunteers on ncuc-discuss &c.
