I would go the way Bill suggests. Star by asking for their support directly; if they raise the NPOC thing then they will have to add us to it or include us in it in some way.

Hi Bill,

thanks for this.
I dont think that they are mutually exclusive. we can propose first on working at SG level, but if NPOC are reluctant, we can stress that we welcome PIR cooperation.
interesting to hear if ICANN is planning to fund NGOs to come to such event. also my understanding that pre-events are not encouraged with the new meeting formats.

Ok so just reply saying NCUC is doing a thing too and would welcome any PIR cooperation going forward? Or do you want to say that NCUC would be prepared to work on this at a SG level if people are open to it?

Hi Bill,

Thanks for this update,
I sent yesterday the request for having the NCUC session in Saturday and reception following the "tradition"
I guess that NPOC want to have the "NGO" session they planned for Dublin meeting but they canceled in the last minute.
it also raises the question about the relation with PIR and being fairly treated.
so yes Bill, I think you should respond here. btw I think Thomas is also a newly NCSG member (and joined NPOC)
for replacement, I guess I can take over that role to work more on strengthening the relationship with PIR, our main funder.

Hi folks

You need to replace me as the PIR rep. In the meanwhile I could reply saying that NCUC also does such events at every meeting, if it is your intent to do so in Marrakech. Or anything else...I don’t know how you want to handle this fun stuff.

Guidance?

Bill

Hello all,

After our last call I posted a short message to the mailing list of the Non Profit Operational Concerns (NPOC) group at ICANN about the possibility of a special event for NGOs during the next ICANN meeting in Marrakech. The idea was well received by several members including the chair, Klaus Stoll.

The idea for ICANN would be to invite local NGOs that are active in the region (and beyond) to come and find out about DNS-related issues such as the roll-out of the new gTLD programme.

For the Public Interest Registry such an event could be a good opportunity to discuss the .NGO / .ONG TLD.

Klaus Stoll has put out a request for possible speakers at such an event. Do you have any recommendations?

What are your thoughts about such an event? Perhaps the PIR could put forward a speaker or support the organisation of such an event in other ways.. What do you think?

Best wishes,

Tom
