Greetings All,
Hopefully everyone is having a great summer and ICANN KL is coming up soon
As to the discussion on diversity and the NOMCOM selection. This issue was
brought
up by Maureen and interesting the NOMCOM reps stay true to the party line
that merit trumps
diversity.
I will like to point out this article by the Harvard Business Journal about
the power of diversity
on boards. As a former NOMCOM member I reached out to all the associations
that encourage representations
on boards that are women, visible minorities etc and encouraged them to
pass the information onward.
Clearly the message about ICANN doesn't resonate and the communication
department needs to fix this problem since
we are not finding the right people. The IT recruitment companies thy use
tend to focus on Telco executives etc and they are easy numbers
for their contracts but relevant experience or knowledge. I have to
agree with Farzaneh that a pre-occupation on 'finance' people
to fill the spots isn't healthy or the skills necessary to make a board
empathic to the needs and wants of the community
