[NCUC-DISCUSS] Nomination of Szeming Tan for AP in EC

Sorry to hear this, Sze Ming.

You are so humble to say you are “not qualified.” Just for your information, and for everyone else: The EC is a very good way to learn what happens in the administration of NCUC without a lot of risk or burden. Indeed, I am surprised that there are people willing to run for NCUC chair without ever having served on the EC before. On EC you learn about the organizational responsibilities, scheduling, elections, ICANN staff liaisons and so on. An EC position gives you exposure to all these things but poses little risk if you make some mistakes or get too busy to keep up. It is a good entry point. I don’t think you are unqualified, but I admire and respect your willingness to apply high standards.

Fortunately we do have another candidate for the region. But still, AP region is “super under engaged” as you put it so your offer to help with outreach and capacity building there is appreciated by everyone in NCUC.

Dear Grace and all,

Thanks for the nomination. After few days of consideration, I have decided not to accept the nomination for the EC AP role. I don't think I'm qualified enough for this election and for this role since I'm new to NCUC even I'm actively involve in the IG/digital rights community in the region.

Knowing that Asia Pacific especially Southeast Asia is super under engaged at the moment, thus, I'm happy to help with the outreach and capacity building in the region together with the new EC

cheers,

Dear all,
I would like to nominate Szeming for EC AP seat. Szeming and I were both NCUC fellows in the Copenhagen meeting earlier this year where we were your typical newcomers struggling with the acronyms. But with encouragement from many of you here, we dove into PDPs and now Szeming is quite active at RDS. This is beside her awesome work in the internet freedom community.
She would be of great service in the EC and hope she will accept the nomination.
Grace
