Noted travel author Edward Hasbrouck has criticized the newly issued draft
contract for .aero in a set of comments sent to the Internet Corporation for
Assigned Names and Numbers. Among other things, he argues that ICANN's
delegation of the new .aero Top-Level Domain "lacks any openness,
transparency, or procedural fairness conditions." He also charges that the
draft agreement would stifle the voices of many members of the "air
transport community," including "airline passengers, ... air transport
consumer advocates," and land use planners, who would be "excluded from
eligibility for .aero registration and/or participation." ICANN's General
Counsel has issued a counter-analysis that discards Hasbrouck's complaints
as "not persuasive."
