Good one Ines. Thank you Thoko for the thoughtful framing and for elevating
the ambition of this discussion.
I share the sense that while we are collectively present across many
important events, there are underlying structural issues that remain
insufficiently addressed at the continental level. These transversal
challenges, particularly those affecting critical digital infrastructures,
deserve more deliberate and sustained attention within our community.
In that regard, I would strongly encourage us to consider dedicating part
of this webinar to a focused discussion on AFRINIC, not only in light of
the current crisis, but more broadly in terms of its long term governance,
resilience, and strategic importance for Africa. As a Regional Internet
Registry, its stability and integrity are directly tied to the functioning
of the global internet, and recent developments have highlighted both
vulnerabilities and gaps in coordinated regional engagement.
Beyond the crisis itself, this could be an opportunity to reflect on our
collective role and contribution to AFRINIC’s policy development processes,
and to explore how African stakeholders can more effectively shape and
safeguard such critical infrastructure in the public interest.
I would be glad to volunteer to contribute to this segment by bringing
context, updates, and facilitating a grounded discussion with the community.
Looking forward to continuing this important exchange.
Warm regards,
Emmanuel Vitus
