[NCUC E-team] Fwd: Confluence for NCUC

Hello,

FYI (Ken's email below). I tend to agree with him.

Looks like NCSG has put a lot on the confluence because they don't
have any other space.

I now want to suggest to him this below

- We remove all the other NCUC pages on Confluence and leave only
one, which will be found under GNSO -> Constituencies -> NCUC
- Not sure if redirects are possible, but we could redirect the other
(deleted) pages to our new home as above
- Create a simple clean structure on our new page (mainly the topics
below (policy development etc)
- Migrate all the content from the other sparse pages to this new one
- We'll then start populating that

If the above is agreed upon, it would also mean that we won't need the
members list et all on the confluence.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Regards,
Wilson

Wilson:

I was about to start working on your NCUC space this morning and noticed
that you already created a starting structure which emulates the one found
on new.ncuc.org.

I find myself puzzled as to why you would want two identical structures. Are
you planning to replicate the content on the Wiki that exists on
new.ncuc.org and, after building the Wiki, would you take down the website?
Having the same information in two (or more) places increases the
maintenance burden, that is, keeping all of the information up-to-date and
consistent between sites. Keep in mind that there is also an area on
gnso.icann.org (see
http://gnso.icann.org/en/about/stakeholders-constituencies/ncsg/ncuc) that
contains NCUC data (although sparse); moreover, I see that some NCUC
information is also replicated in the NCSG Wiki Space
(https://community.icann.org/x/vIpEAg).

While the Wiki can serve multiple purposes effectively, it was designed for
and is best suited to collaboration. One option you might consider is to
keep your NCUC website - for push content - and utilize the Wiki as a
workspace where NCUC members can share ideas, develop drafts, and otherwise
perfect statements and positions that will ultimately be hosted on
new.ncuc.org. In that scenario, the Wiki could, at the top, refer visitors
to the formal website for all semi-permanent information about NCUC (About
Us, Governance, Membership, Participation, et al.); whereas, the Wiki site
would contain only structures/headings related to collaboration topics and
functions (e.g., Public Comments, Policy Development).

I will hold off doing any work on your site pending clarification on your
intentions for the Wiki space.

Thanks,

Ken

Dear Ken,

Thanks Ken for your response.

Rob, do you have some time :) To the least, I want the NCUC home page at
https://community.icann.org/display/gnsononcomuserconst/NCUC-Home
to look like the ncsg one
https://community.icann.org/display/gnsononcomstake/NCSG-Wiki+Home
with a nice menu and all pages populated and formatted well.

Regards,
Wilson
