[Pt53] Progressing the NCUC Outreach Event in BA

Hi

Happy to see the conversation lighting up.

Analia I’m not sure what you mean by "what about recovering the last draft related to the agenda” but we can build off the list used before. Adding geographics could be of interest, although bear in mind that NCUC has not really worked on it like the others, and is deeply split on the issue. But maybe highlighting internal differences is ok. Privacy really is a pretty big thing in our world and work stream, I’d be reluctant to get it lost in the broader HR discussion personally. Bear in mind, we are talking about people saying 2-3 minutes per topic just to put them on the table and say we work on them, so adding a couple wouldn’t really make it unbearably long, people just need to be concise and stick to the time limit. Maybe I’ll pass around an iPhone with timer to each person speaking.

So how about

• IANA and the transitioning of US control (Matt or James)
• Accountability mechanisms in the context of globalization (Matt or Arun)
• Human rights generally (Monika or Niels)
• Privacy and registry services (Robin or Kathy)
• Access to knowledge and intellectual property (Kathy Kleiman)
• Freedom of expression (David Cake)
• Development (Rafik Dammak)
• Geographic Names (maybe debate…Carlos A. vs. Robin? :-)
• ICANN in broader Internet governance, e.g. NETmundial Initiative, IGF (Bill Drake)

that’s 9 x 2/3 minutes, not sooo long before switching the table…

All the topics you listed seem important, though. Maybe a way out would be to merge HR and privacy, using the broader perspective as an introduction to the specifics of privacy?

The value of attending could not be that obvious for participants in some of these lists. The format of a FAQ could be a good one for that. And if info could circulate in Spanish and English even better.

ICANN staff presumably will soon post the meeting schedule, and we will need to supply a text describing the session. Which means we should settle on the substantive agenda. And more importantly, we need to start moving on assembling the list of invitees, and to keep track of who’s inviting them and what the status is etc.

>> *Re: people to offer boot-up remarks, please note that this session will happen at the same time as the GNSO Council meeting, alas. So Stephanie and David will not be available, we’d need others to cover privacy and FoE. Many choices there…also we’ll have our human rights go-to folks there, Niels and Monika, so they could cover that instead of me.
