[Ncuc-lac] [NCUC-DISCUSS] NCUC LAC Call - Onboarding and Choose the theme!

Thanks for raising such an important issue, Carlos!
I agree with both Ayden and Renata. On the one hand, we find ourselves
challenged by the simultaneous hats people usually wear. On the other, we
go back to the question of representativeness, and *who* are we referring
to when we echo the words "civil society," right? Perhaps there are two
interesting ways to address this. One would be to look at international
networks of civil society groups and the other to get a more granular
perspective of the diversity of "civil society" through regional, local or
thematic (e.g.: gender lens) groups. *However, this doesn't (shouldn't)
exclude the role of individuals. I would also highlight the fact that NCUC
has been doing some great work in building the *middle ground* between both
layers of civil society engagement, be it during pre-IGF meetings (e.g.:
Best Bits Civil Society meeting) and pre-ICANN outreach events (excellent
experience in Joburg).

Even though one can raise many questions related to the *effectiveness
*(another
ambiguous concept), the knowledge *skills-set* that you need to develop to
engage, and the real possibility for "civil society" to attend these
meetings, I do believe that we have been taking a good "step at a time."

I believe this would be an interesting topic for discussion (as it also
relates in some ways to what we are doing in the Onboarding program);
although I think we could narrow it a bit so that we are able to better
assess the topic instead of going back to structural challenges of
awareness, representation, and effective participation. What do you think?

Looking forward to our call!

All the best,

L
