OK, thanks. Since the connection details are only published 24 hours prior to the session, we cannot share them ATM. We can share them just prior to the session but presumably you’ll be registered for ICANN80, and you’ll be able to see the details, just in case there are any last-minutes changes to the connection links.

Hi Ephraim. Great to hear that you are able to join.

Will you be in-person or virtual?

Of course you are welcome to intervene at any point , but may I call on you to provide some thoughts during the section on “way forward”, as Farzaneh suggests?

Ken

Hi Ephraim,

It was great catching up with you. We wanted to invite you to the NCUC issue forum, you can either set the scene or come in during the next steps and solutions and the way forward. I am thinking it might be more effective to contribute to the way forward. Up to you, but please coordinate with Ken on where you want to come in:

ICANN80 NCUC Issue Forum Agenda-Tuesday, 11 June 10:45-12:15 local time

Several policy initiatives at ICANN could potentially have impacts, some of which can be severe, on the domain name registrants' rights, and many of these policies go through or are implemented by registrars, who end up playing a fundamental role in guaranteeing (or not) these rights.

In this session, we will talk about how the ICANN community through its policies and advice can (i) preserve the freedoms (especially freedom of expression) of registrants and/or (ii) avoid risks to the safety and well-being of that same group. The potential areas of concern that we will be covering include: DNS abuse mitigation mechanisms, law enforcement requests for urgent and confidential access to domain name registrants’ private and personal data, outdated policies that could encroach upon domain name registrants’ privacy (known as Privacy and Proxy Services Accreditation Issues (PPSAI)), intellectual property overreach and potential human rights violations during the implementation of future RVCs.

We will discuss some of these issues, how they are currently being handled by the Registrars and will draw out the next steps on how to protect domain name registrants’ rights, while also pointing out more broad impacts on the human rights of online users if/when they are affected by ICANN policies and what the ICANN community can do about it.

1. Welcome

2. Issue items:

a. DNS abuse mitigation mechanisms and protection of registrants rights

b. Law enforcement urgent and confidential requests

c. Privacy and Proxy Services Accreditation Issues

d. Intellectual property overreach

e. Transfer issues that can affect access to domains

f. RVCS: rights and threats

3. Registrars and registries measures in protection of registrants' rights

4. Solutions and the way forward

Farzaneh
