Thank you for the clarification, Benjamin. They are always helpful.
My apologies if I conveyed an incorrect view; it was to give some context to the other EC members as to Milton’s involvement, which wasn’t there before. I’m glad to hear you were involved, even though I wasn’t copied on the message you are sharing so really, how was I to know?
Also, just to set the record straight, your recollection is incorrect as I was most definitely NOT invited to nor did I participate in any discussion with the PIR team in Cancun or at any other time, with you or anyone else.
I agree with your hope that we can make progress on this initiative at today’s meeting.
Best regards
Ken

Dear Ken,
I appreciate your intervention but I would quickly like to correct the impression that Milton intervened. I actually called for the meeting to bring everybody on-board. As shown in the screenshot attached below 5days ago.
The proposal was supposed to be discussed in our EC meeting in order to give Milton a response as he had required thereafter, however since you went ahead., we are here now. I just feel it is important to put the facts straight.
As the chair I engage in multiple conversations with different stakeholders to get support for our community and it appears to me, once you are not in the conversation, it is always unclear to you. I have shared the outcome of PIR interactions with you and Johan also attested to it.
Please let me know the clarity you seek and I will try to facilitate it just as it has been done in the past. If I remember correctly, it was in your presence I approached the PIR team in ICANN76.
It is however not very helpful when ECs summarily jump to conclusions on issues such as this. It is my hope that today's EC meeting will help put some clarity into this discussion.
Kind regards,
Benjamin

Hello Fellow EC members.
Milton arranged a conference call this morning with Benjamin, Julf, Farzaneh and me, to discuss the ICANN77 events we have been planning. Milton intervened since he observed that we were not getting any response from my e-mails regarding how to move forward, and for that I am thankful.
Besides some discussion of the status of funding from PIR, which remains unclear, Milton also agreed to propose a programme for a non-commercial session at ICANN77, and that is what you see below. We should discuss this at our EC meeting tomorrow.
Ken

Theme:
Access to DNS in the Age of Sanctions and Trade Barriers
This workshop will examine the way nation-state power conflicts erect barriers to global internet access, focusing on DNS. It would cover topics such as how sanctions affect the provision of DNS services, how ICANN's global policies and contracts intersect with foreign policy pressures, and how certain forms of social media regulations affect Internet access throughout the world. It will explore how Noncommercial stakeholders in the ICANN environment can address those problems.
Invited Speakers:
* Farzaneh Badiei, Digital Medusa on her sanctions work
* Alan Davidson or Susan Chalmers, NTIA, on U.S. OFAC and its relationship to ICANN
* Someone from ICANN legal on implementation of Workstream 2 (general OFAC license)
* Greg Nojeim from CDT
* Milton Mueller, GT IGP on the TikTok ban
* Kathleen Burke from Public Knowledge <mailto:kathleen at publicknowledge.org> kathleen at publicknowledge.org on DNS access restrictions from copyright and trademark interests
* Invite PIR to address sanctions
* TWNIC on cross-strait barriers to Internet access in Asia
There would be 4 15-minute presentations from key speakers (Badiei, Davidson, ICANN, Mueller) would be followed by a roundtable discussion featuring:
* Nojeim, CDT
* PIR
* TWNIC
* Public Knowledge or EFF
* Others?
