Thank you @Andrea  for the update. I believe  Pedro's raising his hand to serve his region is good enough to have us consider him.

@Ines, thank you for the contribution, it would be great to know your suggestions on the way forward. Currently, the EC averages 3 members in recent monthly meetings, and the LAC region has been without an active representation for as long as I can remember. It is a big gap.

We put out a call for an extended period of time and only one person volunteered.

It is my understanding that if anyone is willing to volunteer and support our efforts to increase participation in the region it is a welcome idea.  We will never know if he is capable if we do not give him a chance.

I would like to recommend we give the volunteer a chance to represent the region, except if there are other interests. We can post his name on the mailing list and ask members to respond if they have any objections to him joining the EC.

So reading the bylaws section pasted above, it s not the same situation we are in now.
Also a mere questioning about the role and the business hours without an applucation and also sent after deadline does not qualify for an EC position appointing.

Pedro did specifically ask to speak to someone about the responsibilities. At this point, since there are less than 6 months in the term, he could immediately be appointed to the position until after the AGM.

Here is the section of the bylaws that speak about replacing an EC:

G. When any member of the EC or any other NCUC committee has failed to meet participation criteria as specified in as specified in the bylaws and has been removed by the EC, the Chair, after consulting with members, may appoint a temporary replacement to finish the remaining term. If the remaining term of the resigning or removed elected representative(s) is greater than six (6) months, a new election shall be organized.

Unfortunately, the time does not work for me either.

As a suggestion, I am proposing we use the email thread to respond to his questions so that Benjamin doesnt need to manage all of it alone.

Also, another thing to think about at this point is, if Pedro is keen after his questions are answered; what is the procedure to appoint him? Are we planning to hold another election? Ask him to submit a candidate statement to the discuss list or any other such requirements?

I am not available on the 22nd at that time, but others can speak with him to explain the role of the EC.

We do indeed do a lot of business through the e-mail list, but he should know that we have monthly meetings which are during business hours, and these are important to attend. Also, he should know that engagement activities can involve a certain amount of time, including attending ICANN meetings.
