Subject: [Ext] Re: [NCUC-EC] [time sentitive] NCUC ABRs
Hi all,
I've started to jot down some ideas for our ABRs. Up to this point, I've managed to assemble a short list of what we might consider and develop as proposals -- taking into account FY18 and FY19 successful requests. It includes the continuation of the Policy Writing Course (2nd round), Communication materials, Logistics support (for outreach -- food for joint ALAC-NCUC outreach for example), and other points.
With regards to the "resubmission" of requests, I think our main challenge is how to address the metrics adequately and justify the (i) impact and (ii) outcome of the initiatives in FY19. This would also be a good opportunity for us to engage members in different regions to help us translate and circulate -- key for any kind of CS outreach/inreach we might consider in the near future.
In terms of communication support, we might consider issuing some new privacy stickers, flyers, and even doing a short version of the onboarding materials -- share it in our networks and communicate with wider CS on what are our principles and how we engage within the ICANN ecosystem.
Finally, I strongly support the inclusion for additional funding for global IG events. The only thing we need to take care is how to properly justify this, and that might entail (i) explaining how we have engaged globally thus far, (ii) what is the demand (in this case one of the arguments is that CROP does not cover the "global" strategic events, such as the IGF or major conferences such as RightsCon, CPDP, Internet and Jurisdiction etc..); and (iii) how we are using the resources we have to meet this opportunity and why the ABR would be THE option for us to take NCUC experience in policymaking and global civil society engagement further.
Again, this is just a simple/preliminary list that we could develop. Please feel free to chime in, add some ideas, and start working on it.
I'll stop to work a bit more on this tomorrow. :)

Yes, I have been thinking about submitting an ABR around participation at global events, such as the IGF. With CROPs being regional now and mostly attained to ICANN meetings, we lost some good opportunities of participation in important events.
So maybe we could submit something on the grounds of organising a side-event, that could or could not be cross-community, to discuss Civil Society Participation in Internet Governance. - but I would need your guys help to better develop the idea.

Hi,
The only idea that jumps to mind for me is the previous ABR that we
used to go to INTA. It was actually more successful than I could have
predicted, including making good inroads to academic folks who work on
IP issues related to our work.
I don't have a copy of the previous ABR, though I have the posting
that Farzi sent around below. Any thoughts?

to NCSG-DISCUSS
Dear NCSG members,
Two travel support slots are available for NCSG members to attend INTA
annual meeting :https://www.inta.org/2018Annual/Pages/Home.aspx [inta.org]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.inta.org_2018Annual_Pages_Home.aspx&d=DwMFaQ&c=FmY1u3PJp6wrcrwll3mSVzgfkbPSS6sJms7xcl4I5cM&r=1A9IIOkJia11FXDmJ1R4Jn7wGT4ExHiVuBF89mvNt_Q&m=8iAwSl1PM2o_vuM6bNHSGGng3P5ov-435LK-nOlzGbI&s=T9tOa27rmbSz8bGWbwauCIPUylMy3qKpXAuFRf4NbOs&e=>
The meeting is targeted at IP rights of brand owners and the
applicants need extensive knowledge of IP and how INTA and similar
association work. If you are interested, please apply by sending an
email to me and Maryam and express your interest. Please note the
travel support was approved by ICANN through an additional budget
request, ICANN has set a condition that 1. you should be located in
North America to go to INTA and 2. need to write a report after the
event.
You need to also have a good knowledge of IP law, and be familiar with
how NCSG tries to combat trademark overreach at ICANN. You are also
required to have a clear plan on what you are going to do at INTA, if
you are planning to meet with certain IP law firms that are aligned in
mission with NCSG and how you are going to use this opportunity to
forge stronger allies with like minded IP lawyers.
Apply by 31 January 2018 13.00 UTC.
