I made some suggestions for minor modifications that more clearly focus the session on actual global internet governance i.e. DNS and ICANN.

My support, too.

Having participated in a similar IFF session last year, I think this is well thought out and appropriate, its good that it is slightly more focussed than last years.

Hello Exec Comm,
Please look at this proposal drafted by some NCUC members and let me know if you support it. If this is approved, While we are not obliged to, we might support one person to attend using one of our CROP slots. For example, we could send Louise who is in the region. We have not received many CROP requests so it is not a bad idea to help them. But that is if we don't receive a better proposal.
Best

Dear Farzaneh,
Can the Executive Committee please review this session proposal for the Internet Freedom Festival 2018, and advise if they support its submission? The proposal has been developed in a collaborative, bottom-up manner by the NCUC membership, and the deadline for submissions is 31 October 2017.

If the proposal is accepted by the IFF, we will submit a formal proposal in accordance with section VI of the Operating Procedures.
Many thanks,
Ayden

Hello again Ayden,
Thanks for the efforts though! I think Renata is the right person who can explains IFF. From what I have experienced, IFF focus more to digital security (including surveillance) topics, as well as policy and advocacy esp on privacy, gender. More details here: https://www.internetfreedomfestival.org/wiki/index.php/The_Internet_Freedom_Festival
I think what you have suggested on the proposal is pretty much relevant. The most important thing for me is to open up NCUC platform for more people who wants to know about how the Internet policy making process is, and how they can participate or involve. Correct me if I'm wrong, after few years roaming and working around in digital rights and IG space, I found most of the time policy, human rights and tech people/advox are hardly 'joint' together. I think NCUC can be a platform to be the 'middle person' for these three.

Thanks, Szeming; it is helpful to hear from those who have attended the IFF before. I have not, but have a lot of time for the organising team and the projects Pepe et al coordinate. Our proposal is still being shaped; if you can think of a snappier title, please feel free to edit the Google Doc. Similarly, we of course want a diverse array of panelists, so we can add more voices to the conversation in order to achieve that aim. But I think that is something we can finalise closer to next March, if the session is approved and once attendance is firm. For now I think it is important that we think about who attends the IFF, what the IFF speaks about, how the NCUC can contribute to the conversation, and how the NCUC can benefit from participating. From what I understand about the IFF and its objectives I think this is a conference best suited to us growing our membership, and finding skilled new participants for our policy and advocacy activities.
Best wishes, Ayden
P.S. It is unlikely that I will be at the IFF; I am only drafting a proposal that I think is within our scope of work and which I hope other NCUC members might be able to take forward.

Hello Ayden and all,
I was at IFF this year and also presenter for some sessions. I kinda love the self-organised session we did, esp on introducing NCUC and how random people can join, how newcomers can make impactful contribution for the IG.
I have gone through the proposal, one thing I want to remind is, from my observations during IFF this year, better to make the topic/title short, catchy and direct to the point; diversity of the presenter, direct impact on the discussion. With this, possibility to get selected will be more high. I'm not really good in writing and don't know how can make the proposal better, but this is only my concern :)
thanks!
P.s I will be at IFF 2018 too, and submitting some proposal. Will share soon!

Hi Abdul,
Please go ahead and draft one if you can and have our members to comment on it. I am sure it will be a great one if you come up with one related to DNS or any other issues we are working on as NcUC.
Since we have one already drafted by Ayden, having a second one will help our EC to make an informed decision.
Regards,
Arsene

Greetings all-
The deadline for session proposals for the Internet Freedom Festival (IFF) in Valencia next year is fast approaching. If we are to submit a proposal, we must do so by 31 October.
I have not attended the IFF before but I know that a number of our members have. From what I understand, it is in more of an un-conference format, seeking to trigger conversations and to foster new connections. So with that in mind, I think this could be a good opportunity for us to do outreach.
I have drafted this session proposal.<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1F3inNUXfucxAM_Mf3w2W4hNAZcltyP1pR40ZO2nP5XU/edit?usp=sharing> I am keen to receive your feedback, and particularly comments from those who have attended the IFF before and know the format better than I do. This is just an idea for now; if there is support for the concept, I will take it forward to the Executive Committee and ask that they consider supporting its submission.
Thank you for your time,
Ayden Férdeline
