What happened in Brussels

All ,

I am writing this note to let you know what we did in Brussels in terms of
outreach. You can also follow this model later for outreach considering the
lessons learnt etc.

Monika requested for CROPP - we thought a side event as a complementary to
Monika's session would be good too. Hence we asked ICANN for providing us
with the means to hold the side event at ICANN offices. ICANN paid
partially for my travel expenses to go to Brussels for two nights.

we asked all of our NCUC members to invite whoever they knew attending the
CPDP. We also asked Maryam to post the invitation on the website. we
invited some civil society orgs based in Brussels such as Accessnow and
EDRi.

The lessons learnt were: we need to publicize and invite more people to
attend. The attendance was OK considering the pouring rain and one of the
organizations ( Renewable freedom) already became a member.

Accessnow had requested to join beforehand and as they said it was a good
introduction for them so such events could be also good for the new
members.

We need to follow up on the attendees after such events and provide them
with some guidance as to how to become a member if they wish to do so.

AND , it is very important to say there is no membership fee. And important
to provide basic info on NCSG and the difference between NPOC and NCUC.

As Rafik also suggested we need to have a pitch to grab people's attention
and show them that we are in fact very effective at ICANN. so we need to
compile suggestions as to what to say, what to include etc.

Our members were fantastic in presenting NCUC as a great group for
advancing non-commercial user rights within ICANN. So whenever there are
some NCUC members in some event it is not a bad idea to have such events.

Best
