Hi Peter
Yes, Ed mentioned you were having visa issues, very sorry to hear that. I don’t know if at this point there is anything ICANN staff could do to get the embassy to respond, but if you think it’d help send Rob Hoggarth and Constituency Travel a note with capital letters in the subject line.
Otherwise, do keep us posted, and let’s also try to get ICANN to learn from this experience—I warned them that holding the meeting at this time would raise challenges for us regarding travel permissions due to the timing of the NCUC elections, and that they’d have to be really prompt in helping our international people move the process. It would seem that didn’t work.

I could have been able to get my visa on 7th, Jan.

Because the US Embassy does not accept external telephone calls, I have written to the US Embassy to hopefully request Emergent Visa Delivery and Pickup. I request to get my visa today (8th, Jan), but the US Embassy does not reply.

I was on a plane during the last planning call and haven’t heard that things have evolved beyond what’s written here, with the exception that I guess (per the conversation on the NCSG PC list) we will propose the global public interest for Slot J.

If the four of you who are coming will arrive in time we could do a dinner + brief meeting Sunday night, which would be a lot more fun and conducive to conversation than a breakfast meeting Monday. I can make a booking or we can just wander in Dupont Circle, lot of choices.

Unfortunately the notice is short and the timing conflicts with other meetings e.g. at the State Dept, so I don’t know how big a group of locals we might be able to pull in, but as long as we have at least ten plus our side it’s worth doing. Please feel free to reach out to any local contacts of relevance and encourage them to attend (and notify me if so).

> 4. Due to itineraries / availabilities etc. I ended up with a booking arriving Saturday night, which is not exactly how I wanted to spend my birthday but whatever. At least I might be semi-coherent by Monday morning. ICANN says it cannot cover an early extra night of hotel as per Tuesday, so I would like to formally request that we do so from the NCUC piggybank. Constituency Travel hasn’t responded to several pings as to what hotel I’m in but others have said we’re at the Beacon, so I imagine it’ll be in the $200-300 range.
