Dear NCUC members,
Good afternoon. I hope your week is going well.
Here is my summary of our discussion with the CEO yesterday
On the question of ICANN cutting budgets and having financial constraints,
how will it affect noncommercial stakeholders?
The CEO responded that the cuts were necessary because of falling revenues,
considering the domain name market is not performing that well, and the
increased cost of hosting ICANN meetings (due to inflation AND unexpected
increases in costs related to many of ICANN's activities). There is
currently no effect or adjustment to the funding support for any of the
stakeholder communities (staff is cutting expenses on other fields), and
the CEO said the ICANN team is aware of the need to support our community
in participating in the multistakeholder engagement continuously. However,
if there ever comes a point that requires adjusting funding support, it may
affect noncommercials. In that case, there will be a consultation with the
noncommercial community on the best way to proceed.
On the question of making the platform friendly for people with different
abilities,
The CEO described the effort that the ICANN team has put into making
ICANN's content accessible to all by sharing the work they did with the
3WSC group, and she is requesting members of the community to review and
send feedback as the team is out to ensure that all ICANN's content is
available to all.
FEEDBACK IS REQUESTED
In February 2024, ICANN published an update on enhancing accessibility to
ICANN content.

Also, the ICANN team will provide updates on the project's recent progress.
Regarding the ICANN learning broken content or inaccessible materials on
some devices or browsers, the CEO seeks more details from community
members to help her team troubleshoot. She was not aware of the issue that
some content does not function well on every kind of device, and asked to
provide more details about it and specify what are these contents and on
what computers/configurations they are not working.
These are my personal summary, and I hope you find them useful in response
to your questions.
Kind regards,
Benjamin
