[NCUC-DISCUSS] Deadline for WSIS proposals is tomorrow - here are some ideas for the NCUC to consider proposing

Ah, thank you for this. That's useful. I was thinking that if we submit multiple proposals, we might hedge our bets and hopefully get awarded one. But I suppose one well-developed submission, which we can speak knowledgeably about, and where we likely will have speakers lined up, would seem a more sensible approach... So unless there are any objections from the EC (or other members) I will take your advice and just submit #5. Bill, if you could please ask Fiona and Torbjörn if they would be comfortable having their names included in the proposal, I would be very appreciative! Thank you.

Matt - will you be at WSIS? Would you be interested in speaking on topic #5 as a panelist? Thanks

- Ayden

I would suggest 2 max - with # 5 being one of them.

Hi Ayden

Ok thanks, but I’m not sure I understand what you’re doing. If you send Gitanjali more than one proposal it’s not obvious you thereby increase the chances of acceptance given the limited number of slots and the way they plan the agenda. Most of the slots will go to groups doing ICT4D. And five is a lot more than one…they might come back and say which of these do you want.

BTW I confirmed today that if you build #5 Chinmayi will come. Anriette not sure.

Bill

Thanks for your comments, Bill, and for the panelist suggestions. That was incredibly useful. I like your idea, so I’ve put together a new proposal ([#5 in the Google Doc](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1d3AyMelaMuQJmI4odYFZK7b-O-fjKEE_UqzQ9NuzGvI/edit?usp=sharing)) which meshes together the two workshops that the NCUC hosted at the IGF in 2013 and 2016, and, if it is accepted by the ITU, I will come back to this list and find a way to add a splash of originality to the proposal… and provided you have no scheduling conflicts I think you’d make an excellent panelist here, too!

Thanks again,
Ayden

Hi

Afterthoughts (I’m still on my first cup of coffee so thinking slowly)

With a topic like this, you don’t have to worry about getting the precisely right blend of expertise, as per Farzi’s comment on your first proposal below. All of us can talk about the role and contributions of CS in ICANN or IG generally. You could just toss in names of people who’ll be there, and if you decide later you want a different mix tweak if after it’s accepted. I assume you and Renata plan to attend, and I expect to be doing another WS and could speak to this if you like. Not sure who else is coming but you could poll quickly and send such a thing by COB.

Fiona Alexander from the US NTIA will be there for the workshop I’m doing and is a strong supporter of civil society & multistakeholder, so I could probably rope her in.

Anriette Esterhuysen usually comes to WSIS Forum and would have a lot to say.

Chinmayi Arun from the Centre for Communication Governance in India usually comes and could speak to CS @ IG.

Torbjörn Fredriksson is the Head of the ICT Analysis Section at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and also will be on my WS, and he’s interested in CS engagement at UNCTAD and more generally on Internet stuff, could share experiences from another organizational context.

And if you put such folks, esp. USG and UNCTAD, on the panel, the chances of ITU turning down the proposal decline methinks.

Best

Bill
