[NCUC-DISCUSS] ICANN Mentor Pilot Programme Application

Dear all,

I fully support Edward's point about producing someone who is actively
engaged in NCUC processes and ready to jump head-first into the work needed
to be done.

On a different note, I couldn't agree more with Ayden's points. As a new
NCUC member myself (as well as a relatively newcomer to the IG community as
a whole), I'm trying to get my head around everything. I've not been a
fellow yet and, truthfully, the DNS and other ICANN-specific aspects of the
Internet are not something I am very familiar with. Having a more detailed
resources explaining how to get involved or learn more can definitely be
advantageous to spurring involvement of new members.

With that said, I can absolutely affirm that having am ISOC-appointed
mentor at the IGF last year (my first IGF as well) was invaluable to my
experience, and helped me understand both the micro and macro processes
that were happening. While this may seem self-evident to anyone who has
been involved in this work for some time, it's not only intimidating for
newcomers but utterly overwhelming.

I look forward to seeing how this idea progresses!

Best,
-Michael
