First we find out if there could be funding and cross-community support for the NCPH meeting I’d proposed, as I explained here before and asked the chairs again yesterday. If not, we find out from staff if there could be funding for something solo. If not, then we think about whether we’d want to try something on our own, which would have to be funded somehow. Keep in mind that any Friday event would also compete with the IANA and other extra working meetings, so we probably wouldn’t get the kind of turn out we had in Singapore last year.

If we’ve decided in principle this could be viable, then we would have to see who would be willing to put the time in to follow through and really do all the work entailed in making it happen. If all these elements are in pace, then we could reconstitute the program team and work on an agenda, etc.

As a separate matter, recall that staff now provides support for an outreach meeting within the ICANN program itself. The last few times we’ve settled on Saturday late afternoon as the best option (though not for people in Council) followed by a reception. I will talk in the next few days with JJ about getting this together and trying to customize it to a LA audience a bit. Input on how to do that, and to attract LA CS participants, would be most welcome.

I myself will arrive in BA a bit early for the usual chairs/senior staff meeting late Friday so I’m open to anything people want to make happen that day, just as long as we bear in mind that nothing about this would be easy and magically do itself, it would take a group of committed volunteers and potentially funding.

Cheers

Bill
