According to their website Heathrow Connect is not a reliable alternative.

      12:00 19 June - 12:00 20 June 2014: There will be no Heathrow
      Connect service during the RMT strikes

Heathrow Connect services will not be running during the RMT strikes 
planned from midday on Thursday June 19 until midday on Friday June 20, 
and again throughout the whole of Sunday June 22
