[NCUC-DISCUSS] Staff Proposed Administrative Support

hi,

In the bad old days, I used to very much against getting help form ICANN staff on such things.

These days, the policy team has shown, what I consider to be an amazing ability to serve in a neutral and supportive manner.

These is so much information etc to be organized and published on the web, things to be scheduled, meetings to be arranged etc. that 13 hours a month - ie. 2-4 hours a week could be very helpful all around.

And I would be cautious before holding up the CSISAC model as of secretariat as a successful one. This is a full time jobber who can't keep the web site updated.

I suggest we get in line with our begging bowls and long faces.

We talked about this a little at the NCPH meeting in LA in January. Lots of constituencies, especially IPC and BC, and calling on ICANN to help them with secretariat support. What's currently being discussed is a configuration like ICANN hires a dedicated staffer to support a SG and its component parts, so for ex NCSG, NPOC, and NCUC each get say 13 hours a month of help.

He said sorry but the people will have to be ICANN staffers on the payroll, they can't provide funds for independents, but certainly the person would have to have our approval, ongoing trust and task management to be effective.

We'd still have to write the content, but formatting it, dealing with the publications office, etc. could be given to such a person.
