As technology keeps evolving and changing, domain names and other current identifiers under the ICANN sphere will become irrelevant in a non distant future, so unless we focus and get it's mission right is an organization destined to die.

For sure we will see a natural survival resistance from a multibillion dollar industry created almost out of nothing and the ecosystem that milks from now a rich organization like ICANN.

There were many in the past that put all their bets in AOL...
