[NCUC-DISCUSS] NCUC Election 2013

Now that NCSG has wrapped up its annual election, it is NCUC's turn.   We will need to elect a Chair and an Executive Committee.  

The positions that will be open are:

1.  Chair  						[currently held by William Drake]
2.  EC – Europe				[currently held by Tapani Tarvainen]
3.  EC - Africa					[currently held by Wilson Abigaba]
4.  EC – Asia and the Pacific		[currently held by Peter Green (aka Zuan Zhang 张 钻)
5.  EC – North America			[currently held by Edward Morris]
6.  EC – Latin America			[currently held by Carlos Alberto Afonso]

NCUC really needs committed volunteers who are really willing to donate a few hours a week to collaboration in order to help ensure that civil society's voice is heard in ICANN.  If you think that could be you, please consider standing for one of these positions.

The timetable will be as follows:

November 6 - 19 (Constituency Day in Buenos Aires): Nominations submitted to ncuc-discuss  
November 20 - December 3: Candidates submit statements to ncuc-discuss 
December 4 − 17: Election period 
December 18: Results announced

Voter eligibility:

As you know, NCSG does a labor-intensive "check-in" procedure (which is important in the SG context), and members who do not reply in time to multiple email promptings become ineligible to vote in the election cycle. NCUC has never done a check-in, and has opted for simple majority votes instead.  For example, last year 140 votes were cast, and one position was decided by a single vote https://listserv.syr.edu/scripts/wa.exe?A2=ind1212&L=NCSG-DISCUSS&F=&S=&P=14878.  Which suggests a) we really should try to increase the overall voter turn out this year, and b) every vote counts, so please participate.  

While we don't check-in, we do need to send to the GNSO Secretariat a list of eligible voters.  We must have your correct current email address in order for you to receive a ballot.  Tapani Tarvainen <ncuc at TAPANI.TARVAINEN.INFO> is maintaining our data base.  So please send him your details if you did not respond to him in the Spring when he pulled member addresses from the NCSG list to launch ncuc-discuss, or for that matter to Robin's recent NCSG check-in.  You might want to check that you are correctly listed at http://www.ncuc.org/participate/members/ as well.
