[NCUC-DISCUSS] NCUC Election 2013

Dear TapanI am sorry that you have decided not to stand, but I guess we have to respect your decision as it is justified. I know you will still continue to contribute to the sector even if you will not be the EC rep. Having said that, I would also like to support Nuno on the point about two reps. This is so true especially in Africa where we have been divided along linguistic blocks. It would be useful to have to reps.

Dear Tapani, I am really sorry to know this.
I am sure your decision is the best for you.
I can't help to express again my view on things, as I stated them last time we all met in Durban: I think that being a geographic area representative is a task for two. I called for a change in the rules of NCUC to integrate this view of things.

If not for the reasons you call in your email - a too heavy toll on your agenda, geographic areas are better represented by two elected officials, mostly because some areas are so heterogeneous that one single representative can be a not-significant choice.

@Bill: can you please take note at this and bring this idea to the relevant committee?
I will add a new view to support my idea. We all complain that we need to integrate and be inclusive and be representative of our own communities - and ultimately, this is the Multi-Stakeholder Model is about. Nevertheless, most of the times, we act as if this is sort of a private club. A clear and concise example: the degree of abstraction of the language used in some of the emails, makes them look as if only a person who has been initiated in the mysteries of NCUC is able to understand what the discussion is about. If ICANN wants to communicate that way, fine. We should not follow their example regarding this.

Tapani, you have my respect.
Warm regards,
Nuno

Dear fellow NCUC members,

After some heavy soul-searching and reflection upon the past

year, I must, with no small amount of regret and sadness,

decline my nomination as a candidate for European representative

to the Executive Committee of the Non-Commercial Users' Constituency.

I would like to sincerely thank Kate Smith-Lawrence for nominating me

and the amazingly numerous people who've supported me. I must also

apologize for this very late announcement, but the decision was not

easy.

In the end, however, it has become clear that I cannot continue.

My reasons have little to do with NCUC EC as such. Admittedly I have

been frustrated by my inability to work there as efficiently as I

would've liked, but the main reason for that as well as for my

decision to drop out is that certain events of my life outside ICANN

(yes, I do have life outside ICANN) have taken a much heavier toll on

me than I have realized, and I have overloaded myself with more work

than I can handle.

Faced with the need to unload something to keep myself from burning

out, the first to suffer will, inevitably, be volunteer work, and

I would not want to be in the EC knowing I would not be able to

give it enough time and attention.

Fortunately, however, we have a good slate of candidates and

I have no doubt we'll have a great Executive Committee next

year, whoever gets elected.

Finally, I'd like to thank my fellow EC members, Bill, Ed, Wilson,

Carlos, Norbert, Peter, Milton and Rafik: it's been a privilege to

work with you, as well as with the entire NCUC community.

Sincerely,

--
