[NCSG-Discuss] NCUC @ Beijing: Constituency Day & Policy Workshop (9-10 April)

We (particularly Tapani) have updating and improving the NCUC member data base in order, inter alia, to allow us to launch a new members listserv.  But there's still a wee bit more to do before we're there, so for now I have to provide a little constituency info here on the SG list. (FWIW, it seems we now have somewhere in the area of 87 organizational & 192 individual members in 69 countries.)

NCUC's Constituency Day meeting will be held from 9:00 − 12:30 Beijing time (UTC/GMT +8 hours) on Tuesday 9 April.  A draft agenda is accessible from https://community.icann.org/display/gnsocouncilmeetings/NCUC+Beijing+Meeting+2013-04-09.  We will have a lot to talk about.  Most substantive policy discussions related to the GNSO Council meeting etc. will take place in the NCSG PC and NCSG Constituency Day meetings, about which Robin will be sharing info shortly.  So in the NCUC meeting, we will be devoting a majority of our time to our new constituency building efforts, e.g. revamping our electronic platforms and bylaws, as well as our policy conference programming activities, finances, inreach/outreach plans, etc.  The bylaws discussion will also provide an opportunity to consider some larger questions about NCUC's mission and activities going forward.  We hope folks will decide to join us;  staff will post the remote participation information (Adobe Connect link and telephone bridge) at the http://beijing46.icann.org/node/37083 after the holidays.

In addition, NCUC is organizing a two hour policy workshop from 13:00-15:00 Beijing time (UTC/GMT +8 hours) on Wednesday 10 April.  The theme of the meeting is, One World, One Internet?  New gTLDs & Competition in A Changing Global Environment, and we will have panels on integration vs. fragmentation of the Internet, and on Chinese and Western perspectives on new gTLDs, competition and regulation.  Among the speakers will be five people from China, and we expect to lively discussions.  We'll also do a bit of "warm up" discussion about the panel themes at the Constituency Day meeting.
