Hi all

Thanks again to NCUC for your participation in and support of the
African School on Internet Governance.

Also thank you for giving those of us who were involved in the school an
opportunity to talk more about it, and other African issues, during the
NCUC meeting.

In response to Dee Dee, I want to firstly clarify (for Dorothy) that Dee
Dee was referring to the ICANN meeting, not to the African School on IG.
Dee Dee was not part of the African School (although we would have
welcomed her as we see it as an international school based in Africa).

My understanding is that Dee Dee is saying that a missing element of the
ICANN meeting was participation from African representatives "to learn
about the history and status of internet access and use in Africa."

I agree with her. Having a session on  the status of the internet in
Africa would have added value to the ICANN meeting. It also seems to me
that not everyone is clear on what the status is of ICANN's African
strategy.

But this was not a problem at the AfriSIG. We had extensive
participation from African actors in IG, including Adiel from AfriNIC
being with us for nearly 2 days in total. We had Pierre Dandjinou from
ICANN, and Mike Jensen presented the early history of the internet in
Africa. We also had other pioneers like Nnenna and Calvin Browne and
Mark Elkins as well as people from the African Union Commission.
