Hi Joy,
Not commenting just a heads up on an upcoming Human Rights international
conference.
- - - -
The Freedom Online 2012 Conference to be held on the 6th of September 2012
at the UN complex, Nairobi, Kenya.
This is the 2nd Freedom Online coalition Conference following the highly
successful inaugural one hosted by the Government of Netherlands on 9th Dec
2011. The Freedom online coalition is a movement whose members comprise
countries interested in advancing the cause for Internet Freedom to enable
the exercise of human rights as a critical foreign policy agenda for
continuous development. The Government of Netherlands is the sitting
coalition chair.
The coalition already has 17 members countries drawn from Europe, US,
Africa and Asia. The event is targeted at 500 participants, with the
Coalition aiming to grow new members. Key goals of the coalition for
Freedom Online conferences are:
- Sharing information between coalition member states and interested
states on potential violations and other measures that undermine
Internet freedom as a human right.
- Collaborating to support the ability of individuals, particularly
those operating in repressive environments, to exercise their human rights
through the Internet.
- Promoting Internet freedom in appropriate international, regional
organizations and individual countries.
- Engaging ICT businesses from across the globe on their responsibility
to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms online.
