Council is looking for direction on what kind of studies to do (or  
not do) on Whois and how to treat the studies.  So I'd like to  
encourage folks to submit comments, even if they are brief, on the  
issue.

These studies are an opportunity for important facts to be explored  
regarding the need for privacy protection of Whois data, so proposing  
studies along those lines would be useful.  Another suggestion was to  
conduct a study on the effects on crime prevention in country-code  
top-level domains that shield some contact data in order to protect  
the privacy rights of Internet users.  In the comments, we want to  
discourage the GNSO from waiting for the outcomes of these studies  
before whois can be reformed, however.

I think they will propose studies to try to show consumers don't need  
(or already have sufficient) privacy protections so ICANN should not  
revise its whois policy.  Steve Delbianco from the IPC proposed the  
first 3 studies on 9 Jan.

this since he's been participating in the ad hoc group set up  
regarding whois studies.
