* US Gov't approves ISOC takeover of .org--The United States government has
approved the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers' selection
of the Internet Society to operate the .org top-level domain.

* ICANN General Counsel in favor of .name Whois registrant database access
changes--Louis Touton, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and
Numbers' General Counsel, has recommended approval of changes to the .name
registry agreement with regards to the domain's Whois registrant database.
The changes would essentially create several levels of access to the
information contained in the database: "two less detailed levels of Whois
reports would provide relatively minimal details and would be available to
members of the public without prearrangements," while "two more detailed
levels would involve password-controlled access." The revised language does
not, however, provide affected .name users any specific ways to protect
themselves (such as a right to sue) if Whois information about them has been
unnecessarily disclosed or otherwise abused.
