[ncdnhc-discuss] ICANN proposal would continue geographic domain name freeze

ICANN is proposing to continue its ban on the registration of geographic and
geopolitical names in the .info domain at least until March 2002. This
proposal comes despite a recent report from the World Intellectual Property
Organization that cautioned against extending intellectual property-style
protections to such terms within the domain name system. The proposal does
suggest that WIPO representatives be included in a special "discussion
group" to "explore appropriate ways of addressing the short-term issue of
the disposition of the 327 ... temporarily 'frozen' .info names."
