In this case is Brasil (in portuguese, local language) and Brazil (in
english). But realize that in the ISO 3166 list (as mentioned in the
Boardd resolution), only Brazil is included. But this is not the most
interesting.
Eurpean Union is not in the ISO 3166 list but there are at least 11
different ways to name the European Union in the list of reserved names
( www.afilias.info/whois/reserved-names.html ) .
The resolution of the Board speaks about "countries and distinct
economies". If the European Union is considered, why not Mercosur (the
union among Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay) ?
But, is the same, because the in spite of the fact that the Resolution
only make the exception of the names that have already been registered in
the Sunrise period (only trademarks), there are a lot of names like Chile
and Paraguay, that has been registered without any trademark information.
This is very interesting. Since the beginning of the discussion i have
said that this board resolution would be not useful because it would not
achieve the GAC's objectives, but the most interesting is that the Board
Resolution has not been applied by Afilias and the criterion in the
creation of the list has not been neither clear nor fair.
Regards,
Raul.
