[ncdnhc-discuss] Update: ICANN backs down on leaflet restrictions

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has amended its
website to say that it will only restrict commercial leafleting at its
upcoming Nov. 2001 meetings in Los Angeles. ICANN's original statement
contained no such distinction and suggested that it would not allow anyone
to distribute any leaflets at its Nov. 2001 meetings unless they pay at
least US $5000. The prior statement led critics to accuse ICANN of
inhibiting free speech and goes against ICANN's own rules, which require the
Corporation to "operate to the maximum extent feasible in an open and
transparent manner."
