Hi Benjamin and Raphael,
Apologies for being slow to respond, and warning that I'll be more or
less completely offline again from tomorrow until early April. Anyway:
As I recall, NCUC's current WordPress setup was built by James Gannon,
without my involvement, and I haven't done anything much with it
other than maintaining the server it's running on.
I wasn't aware that he'd used a paid theme. (I would have advised
against that.) I don't know but would not be surprised if upgrading
the theme costs extra. If so, your options are either paying for it or
replacing the theme with another (free) one. Or, theoretically, fix
the theme - likely to require non-trivial coding (not advised).
Upgrading the theme may also require some extra work now that it's
already been broken. Possibly as much as switching to another theme.
Of course it may also turn out to be trivial, but it's hard to
predict.
If you choose to change the theme, the recommended way is to build it
as another wordpress installation first and switch DNS when ready.
NCUC's server should be able to handle that, so no need to buy
new hosting. Copying the existing installation to another name
for experimenting would not be too hard either, perhaps simply
changing the theme wouldn't break too many things.
As for Benjamin's questions: no, there's no official way. You can of
course pay for the upgrade work, there're plenty of people and
companies willing to do that kind of work for money. In this case
the best place to start would probably be GoodLayers support,
https://goodlayers.ticksy.com/. You should first dig up the account
used when the theme was first installed (perhams Gannon has it).
And ask them first if purchasing a new version of the theme is likely
to fix the problems without (much) extra work.
Either way, I won't be able to help much more until I return
home, probably around April 4.
Best,
Tapani
