Subject: [GNSO-SG-C-Leadership] FOR REVIEW & FEEDBACK: Summary of Proposal
for WS2 Community Coordination Group (for next SOAC Chairs' Roundtable,
Wednesday 15 December)
To: gnso-sg-c-leadership at icann.org <gnso-sg-c-leadership at icann.org>
Dear GNSO Stakeholder Group and Constituency chairs,
Philippe has asked that we highlight the attached document for your
attention, as the GNSO community will need to provide your feedback on the
question whether to proceed with forming the proposed Work Stream 2 (WS2)
Community Coordination Group. This topic will be on the agenda for the
upcoming SOAC Chairs’ Roundtable next week (15 December 2021), where the
idea was first raised several months ago. At the previous Roundtable (4
October 2021), the SOAC Chairs had requested that org provide a summary of
the proposal to enable each community group to fully consider it. The
attached document is the resulting summary that we have also circulated to
the SOAC Chairs.
It will be good to know if the GNSO community has any concerns about
proceeding as proposed in respect of those few WS2 recommendations directed
at the community that either require or will benefit from community-wide
coordination and information sharing (specifically, *WS2 Recommendations
1.1 and 1.7* (concerning diversity) and *WS2 Recommendation 2.3* (about
creating a uniform framework for the exercise of Empowered Community
powers).
As explained previously, this category of recommendations calls for a
different approach than the remaining WS2 recommendations that were
directed at the community and that are intended for individual community
groups to decide whether and how to implement. For the latter, I’d like to
take this opportunity to thank you and your groups for continuing to work
with our team to review the initial inventory of recommendations that
affect your respective groups. That work continues and the Policy staff
remain available to assist each group with completing this initial review
exercise, which will hopefully inform your planning and decision making on
next steps for implementation (if any).
Please let me know if you or your groups have any objections or concerns
about proceeding with forming the proposed WS2 Community Coordination Group
or if you have any questions about the proposal. Thank you!
Cheers
Mary
