Dear EC members,
With additional several applications coming in, currently,
we received 4 formal applications for the Mentor :
1. Dr. Tatiana Tropina, Germany
2. Remmy Nweke, Africa
3. Kathy Kleiman, USA
4. Carlos Vera Quintana, Brazil
we received 12 formal applications for the Mentee
1. Soumya Iyer, female, India
2. Patrick Lenihan, Canada
3. Isaque Joaquim, Mozanmbique
4. Ayden Fabien Férdeline, UK
5. Benjamin Akinmoyeje, Africa
6. Sana Ali (female), Canada
7. Melaku Girma, Ethopia
8. James Njoroge Gitau, Kenya
9. Renata Aquino Ribeiro, Female,Brazil
10. Padmini Baruah, Female, India
11. Tuhaise Robert, Uganda
12. Nobert Komlan Glapke, Togo
Farz, Grace and I agree to have Kathy for the Mentor.
For the Mentee, with Padmini's application, her work on DIDP and transparency indeed impress me.
In addition, her application has been endorsed by Ed, James etc. In his endorsement, Ed has pointed out that we need a true worker bee, not just a person who is interested in ICANN or just has a strong wish to learn. We have to evaluate who, after the mentoring, will be a person who could work for us.
Thinking in this way, I am inclinced to support Padmini.
BTW, as Tapani has suggested, since we have a good pool of candidates now, shall we embrace them in NCUC now, have our own Mentors and Mentees? In future, we may have to ask ICANN to expand the number of Mentors and Mentees for NCUC.
Your comments and thoughts would be appreciated.
Best
Peter

Hi Grace
I agree that padmini has a proven interest in working groups and as this is short notice she can still find her her. This doesn't mean that other candidates don't and we should have a roster of the interested candidates and try to involve them on other ways. We should have a roster for future calls. As I have seen padminis work I support her application. So I suggest Kathy as the Mentor and Padmini as the mentee.

I would go for Kathy. She was the first one to indicate interest and is aware of the time implications.
As for mentee, for me Padmini looks like she is the most serious of all applicants. She took time to do her application that clearly expresses her interest in being considered. That said, Peter, in future, I think applicants should be asked to respond to the call using certain criteria. It is not enough to just send a one liner saying one is interested. Again, maybe this is a result of the need to beat this deadline.
Rgds
Grace

Thanks for this Peter.
As to the mentor I support Kathy Kleiman's application. Kathy is the co-founder of NCUC and she has been very effective in policy making in ICANN.
As to the mentee, I am quite happy we received 9 applications and such enthusiasm. I am split between Sumya, enthusiastic young lady from India and Ayden, male from Europe who is a member of LGBT community and a member of youth coalition on IG.
I am sorry I didn't point this out before you issued the call. People in WEOG cannot benefit from fellowship program at ICANN as only people from developing countries can apply. Considering this I am thinking whether we should prioritized developing countries in this program. We can discuss this later. But these are the two candidates that I think their participation will be worthwhile. Looking forward to other EC members views. You can either support one of the candidates I named or suggest other names.
Best Farzaneh

Dear EC members,
Until now, we received 3 formal applications for the Mentor :
1. Dr. Tatiana Tropina, Germany
2. Remmy Nweke, Africa
3. Kathy Kleiman, USA
we received 3 formal applications for the Mentee
1. Soumya Iyer, female, a developing country
2. Patrick Lenihan, Canada
3. Isaque Joaquim, Mozanmbique
4. Ayden Fabien Férdeline, UK
5. Benjamin Akinmoyeje, Africa
6. Sana Ali (female), Canada
7. Melaku Girma, Ethopia
8. James Njoroge Gitau, Kenya
9. Renata Aquino Ribeiro, Brazil
Also, I agree with Milton. We did receive an overdue notification from ICANN.
It seems that Milton has thoughts regarding considering to apply to serve as the Mentor.
So, there could be 4 applications for the Mentor if we count him.
Ladies and Gentlemen EC members, please be noted some context requirments in the open call:
1. There is no formal format set for reponses to the call, attached please find the email responses from each applicant, so the EC could evaluate their wish to participate in the program solely according to their response.
2. For the sake of geographical diversity, newbies from Africa, MENA region or the Latin America may be prefrred.
3. For the sake of gender diversity, in case there are more applications, ladies are prefrred.
Let's start the discussion. Please state your choice for the Mentor and the Mentee, and demonstrate your views and rationale to support the Mentor and the Mentee.
BTW, if Tapani could understand, we may have to skip a little behind the 12:00 UTC deadline.
Anyway, it is expected that we may have a final result not very late today.
If there is any problem, please do not hesitate to correct me.
Thank you so much.
Best Regards
Peter

主题: [NCUC-DISCUSS] Call for Candidates of ICANN Mentor Pilot Program
Dear NCUCers,
ICANN is doing a Mentor Pilot Program, which will be starting in Marrakesh.
Now NCUC has to call for TWO candidates within the Constituency, one Mentor and one Mentee, i.e. 1 vs 1.
ICANN would provide travel support for selected candidates of the Program for the Marrakesh meeting.
Please find the attached introduction document of the Mentor Pilot Program.
The Program aims to seek those who have strong wish to learn and get involved with ICANN as soon as possible and those who have strong wish to coach, educate.
Requirements:
1. Time (for both the Mentor and Mentee)
Under the instructions of the ICANN staff, each week both the Mentor and Mentee should allocate one or two hours meeting online in their agreed-upon timeframe.
So candidates must ensure they have time.
2. Good Knowledge about ICANN (for the Mentor only)
According to the Mentor Pilot Program, we need one Mentor, who is an ICANN veteran. We need one who has strong wish to educate and mentor new guys and could come up with an idea of coaching, for instance, a specific area or subject.
3. Without Knowledge about ICANN (for the Mentee only)
Newbies, unfamiliar with ICANN, are welcome. We need him/her to be engaged with enthusiam and sustained interest about ICANN.
4. Diversity (for the Mentor)
In terms of diversity, Mentee candidates from Africa, MEMA region or the Latin region are preferred. In case, there are more candidates, ladies are preferred.
5. A Brief Report (for the Mentor only)
We need the Mentor to draft a brief coaching report which could tell us what the Mentor has done for coaching the Mentee. It could be brief.
6. The final decision regarding selection of the Mentor and Mentee candidates rests upon the EC.
When the EC makes the final selection, it would deliver its rationale.
ICANN may provide travel support for Mentors and Mentees for future meetings.
As time is a little bit urgent, please respond by 20:00 UTC, Monday, 24th, Jan, 2016.
The Executive Committee will be announcing the selection results by 12:00 UTC, Monday, 25th, Jan, 2016 and then deliver the results to ICANN staff.
Best Regards
Zuan/Peter
