Dear Peter,

Please consider this as my application for becoming a sincere and dedicated mentee.

I'm Soumya Iyer. I have been a member of NCUC since the past 2-3 months. I have a very keen interest in the field of internet governance and ICANN and I would like to work whole-heartedly toward any ICANN activities in India, where I live. I have been a part of NCUC monthly meetings and have always wanted to participate and contribute productively towards ICANN's missions and goals but I did not know where to start. I have always felt the need of a mentor to guide me to take the first steps.

I applied to ICANN Fellowship in October 2015 and to ICANN CCT-Review Team in November 2015 but got to know in December 2015 that I had not made it to the list in Fellowship or CCT-Review Team as I did not have adequate exposure to get into the team. Every NCUC call i attend, i always wish someone could guide me to contribute my best toward the workings of it. And I learn that i cannot even apply for ICANN56 as it restricts to members who have already participated in earlier meetings.

Today, I see that this is an opportunity that would really allow me to wholly take my first steps into the world of ICANN and its workings and with the help of a mentor who will help me do it.

Why should i be selected?

1) I'm ready to dedicate more than 1-2 hours that has been mandated every week in your email. I'm ready to dedicate 1 hour every day to contribute and work for ICANN and its goals for the rest of my life
2) I really wish to take up voluntary work which can help in creating awareness and take up work to empower and engage people in India towards ICANN participation
3) I'm young girl from a developing country but I have the requisite passion and enthusiasm to work for the greater good of the internet space in my country and represent it and bring it at par towards the world
4) I have tried to educate myself in internet governance and have a brief idea about it being a member of ISOC. I have done my homework properly

I sincerely request ICANN to help me take my first steps and I assure that I would contribute to the best of my abilities to the work and spirit of ICANN as it is something I'm truly passionate about. I think that where there is a will, there is a way.

Thanks so much!

Yours sincerely,
Soumya Iyer,

Dear NCUCers,

ICANN is doing a Mentor Pilot Program, which will be starting in Marrakesh.

Now NCUC has to call for TWO candidates within the Constituency, one Mentor and one Mentee, i.e. 1 vs 1.

ICANN would provide travel support for selected candidates of the Program for the Marrakesh meeting.

Please find the attached introduction document of the Mentor Pilot Program.

The Program aims to seek those who have strong wish to learn and get involved with ICANN as soon as possible and those who have strong wish to coach, educate.

Requirements:

1. Time (for both the Mentor and Mentee)

Under the instructions of the ICANN staff, each week both the Mentor and Mentee should allocate one or two hours meeting online in their agreed-upon timeframe.
So candidates must ensure they have time.

2. Good Knowledge about ICANN (for the Mentor only)

According to the Mentor Pilot Program, we need one Mentor, who is an ICANN veteran. We need one who has strong wish to educate and mentor new guys and could come up with an idea of coaching, for instance, a specific area or subject.

3. Without Knowledge about ICANN (for the Mentee only)

Newbies, unfamiliar with ICANN, are welcome. We need him/her to be engaged with enthusiam and sustained interest about ICANN.

4. Diversity (for the Mentor)

In terms of diversity, Mentee candidates from Africa, MEMA region or the Latin region are preferred. In case, there are more candidates, ladies are preferred.

5. A Brief Report (for the Mentor only)

We need the Mentor to draft a brief coaching report which could tell us what the Mentor has done for coaching the Mentee. It could be brief.

6. The final decision regarding selection of the Mentor and Mentee candidates rests upon the EC.

When the EC makes the final selection, it would deliver its rationale.

ICANN may provide travel support for Mentors and Mentees for future meetings.

As time is a little bit urgent, please respond by 20:00 UTC, Monday, 24th, Jan, 2016.

The Executive Committee will be announcing the selection results by 12:00 UTC, Monday, 25th, Jan, 2016 and then deliver the results to ICANN staff.

Best Regards

Zuan/Peter
