Hello

Thanks Maryam for passing this info along, it is great to have you handling this.

Folks, a reminder: a month or two ago we had some brief exchanges about moving to an expedited approval process in light of past complaints about delays. The argument was this: In the past, the practice that evolved (but is not required by the bylaws, which say only that "Membership shall become complete upon notification of acceptance by the Constituency Chair, or the Secretary-Treasurer acting with the consent of the Chair") was that after the NCSG EC approved people for NCSG, the NCSG chair would forward to the NCUC chair the list of those who’d indicated a desire to join NCUC as well, who then forward the list to the NCUC EC, and we waited for people to all get around to responding to mail and giving their approval. As we discussed, there’s no need for this extra step and delay, since we have representatives on the NCSG EC who are NCUC members who can be entrusted to properly vet applicants for the constituency’s purposes. Milton and Robin have scrutinized the apps and determined the people to be suitable, which is anyway more due diligence than we were doing by just looking at the list of names and rendering a verdict (and we always said yes).

In light of the above, I suggest that beginning with this intake we put in practice a new model, which is simply that we consider our reps to have vetted appropriately and we promptly add the new members, so there’s not more than a day's delay between NCSG action/announcement and NCUC’s action/announcement. If there are any objections to this that were not expressed previously, please say ASAP, like today.

Barring any objection, tomorrow morning CET we should do the following:

1. Maryam adds the new members to our data base and revises the website totals (unless this is automated, I forget) at http://www.ncuc.org/about/members/ <http://www.ncuc.org/about/members/>

2. Maryam subscribes the new members to ncuc-discuss at lists.ncuc.org <mailto:ncuc-discuss at lists.ncuc.org>

3. Maryam notifies me as soon as this is done.

4. I send a welcome to NCUC message to ncuc-discuss at lists.ncuc.org <mailto:ncuc-discuss at lists.ncuc.org>

Ok?

Below is the list; I have removed the personal email addresses so they’re not in this publicly archived message. In the past someone complained that not doing so was a privacy violation. Personally I think if you join a group like NCUC and asked to be added to a mail list, having your address in an archived message is no big deal, but whatever, maybe that’s just me.

If I am reading the incomplete listing by “type” below correctly, we just picked up 3 organizational members and 20 individual members, which is not a bad month+. The challenge of course is to do some inreach and help make their membership more meaningful and operational than just being on a mail list...

Best,

Bill
