Hi everyone,

I’m back from ICANN82 in Seattle, where the NomCom held its latest training
and working sessions from March 7-9, 2025. This meeting marked a key phase
in our work, as we move from the application period into assessment and
shortlisting. As your NCUC delegate, I want to provide an update on what
was covered, my participation, and what’s next.
Key Takeaways from ICANN82 Candidate Assessment Training & Process Overview

A major focus was preparing for the next phase of our work: assessing and
shortlisting candidates. We had two in-depth sessions on the NomCom’s
assessment process, covering:

   - Pre-screening & application review – Initial evaluations of
   applications.
   - Soft Dive & Deep Dive – More detailed evaluations, including virtual
   interviews.
   - Shortlisting Phases – The first round of shortlisting in April,
followed by virtual interviews and a second shortlisting in May.

We also had a two-part Effective Interviewing training, which provided
practical strategies for evaluating candidates fairly and consistently.
NomCom Operations & Subcommittee Updates

   - Polling, Voting, and Quorum: We reviewed how voting processes will
work, ensuring we have clear procedures in place.
   - Recruitment Services Update: The external recruitment firm provided an
   update on outreach efforts.
   - Subcommittee Updates: I attended the Application, Outreach, and
Continuous Improvement Program (CIP) updates to stay informed on
   cross-committee efforts.

Upcoming Intercessional Meeting in Los Angeles

The NomCom will meet for an intercessional in Los Angeles in April, where
we will review the first slate of candidates for assessment. This will be a
critical step in narrowing down the applicant pool and preparing for the
next stages of the selection process.
Reminder: Applications Close on March 28th

A quick reminder that applications for open leadership positions (including
the PTI Board seat) are still open until March 28, 2025, at 23:59 UTC. If
you know anyone who would be a great fit, please encourage them to apply!

My Participation & Next Steps

   1. Recommendations Subcommittee Work – We had dedicated time on the
final day to work on our review of the NomCom Operating Manual and
Handbook. Transparency remains a top focus, and we’re working through
   updates alongside Mike.
   2. Assessment & Shortlisting – The next big step is evaluating
applications, with the first shortlist happening at our April
   intercessional in Los Angeles.
   3. ICANN83 & Further Work – NomCom’s work continues beyond ICANN82,
leading up to ICANN83 and our final candidate selections.

Final Thoughts

ICANN82 was an important milestone, solidifying our process as we move into
candidate evaluations. I’ll continue pushing for transparency within the
NomCom and ensuring the process remains fair and accountable. If you have
any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out!

Best,
James Gannon
