Hi everyone!
We plan to do the NCUC Issue Forum @ ICANN81 about the process of new gTLDs
(which many of you may know as New gTLD Subsequent Procedures
<https://icannwiki.org/Policy_Development_Process_for_New_gTLD_Subsequent_Procedures>
(SubPro), with more info here <https://www.icann.org/subpro-odp> and here
<https://gnso.icann.org/en/group-activities/active/new-gtld-subsequent-procedures>),
highlighting the Applicant Support Program
<https://newgtldprogram.icann.org/en/application-rounds/round2/asp> (ASP).
Following the launch in 2012 of the new Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs)
Program, which substantially increased the number of gTLDs during the years
that followed, many other suggestions on how to improve the process in the
next round were made. One can find much of the work developed in the 2021
Final Report
<https://gnso.icann.org/sites/default/files/file/field-file-attach/final-report-newgtld-subsequent-procedures-pdp-02feb21-en.pdf>
of the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures Policy Development Process Working
Group (SubPro PDP WG), which started its work in 2016. A very important
part of those improvements, especially important from a non-commercial
perspective, was to try to achieve a more effective Applicant Support
Program that could better guarantee some real diversification in the domain
name system.
*Since we are closer every day to this next phase of the program, we would
like to know the main doubts, curiosities, commentary, and criticism about
this theme that you may have - please share them with us, by answering this
email!*
We will build an agenda based on your contributions, and the Issue Forum
will have ICANN Staff and NCUC members who were an active part of this
process. We hope this can lead us to a very fruitful session, focused on
the non-commercial mission.
Please, feel free to present your questions or commentaries even if you are
a newcomer or do not know much about the process. This is actually a
central part of what we want to achieve, which also involves identifying
the points that need to be better disseminated so that the program can
reach as many diverse people as possible.
Cordially,
*Pedro de Perdigão Lana*
