Hi All,

The ICANN81 NomCom onboarding workshop was an intensive three-day event
packed with introductions, discussions, and training designed to prepare
the 2025 NomCom team. I actively participated in sessions across all three
days, with a particular focus on promoting transparency and potential
process improvements within NomCom—a theme I raised as a focus during my
candidacy for the role.

To further this I’ve also taken on the role of Chair for the
Recommendations Subcommittee, where transparency and process improvement
will be a primary focus for me as we dive into reviewing the NomCom
Operating Manual and Handbook over the coming year.

*Workshop Highlights and Key Contributions:*

   -

   *Day 1:*
   -

We kicked things off with an overview of the NomCom Handbook and
confidentiality policies. During this session, I raised the importance of
transparency in NomCom operations, making sure this was noted as
a priority
      moving forward.
      -

The group then established subcommittees, and I agreed to Chair the
Recommendations Subcommittee. I emphasized that our work would prioritize
transparency as we review key documents like the Operating Manual and
Handbook, aiming to make our practices clearer and more accessible.
      -

   *Day 2:*
   -

The morning included a working session with subcommittee chairs and
NomCom leadership. We also met with the GNSO Leadership (CPH
Vice Chair) to
discuss requirements for their candidates. I note the NCPH
Leadership were
not present, so please pass along any comments to Tomslin who
can reach out
      to me.
      -

Later in the day, I attended the Unconscious Bias Training sessions
led by Femi Otitoju. These sessions were insightful, adding another layer
to our approach on openness and inclusivity within NomCom’s work.
      -

   *Day 3:*
   -

The day began with Inclusive Leadership Training, where I joined
other NomCom and subcommittee leaders. The focus here tied in
well with our
transparency goals—ensuring inclusivity and openness in all
aspects of our
      work.
      -

We ended with discussions involving the PTI Board of Directors and
ALAC Leadership. I took the opportunity to stress open communication and
transparency, which I believe are essential to our mission at NomCom.

*Summary:*
Throughout the ICANN81 workshop, I made transparency and improvement of the
NomComs communications a recurring theme, keeping it at the forefront of
discussions. As Chair of the Recommendations Subcommittee, I’ll be guiding
a review of our documents and practices to ensure they reflect clear,
accessible, and transparent governance.

Additionally as we head into preparing for the application period I would
value insights from the NCUC community on the capacities and skills that we
feel should be represented on the ICANN board and the GNSO NomCom Appointed
seats.

Our work will continue virtually over the coming weeks, with the
application period targeted for Jan 2025 and our next in-person meeting to
be at ICANN 82 in Seattle.
