Just some background info before the read out
What is RDRS: the triage system to submit requests to have access to
people's (domain name registrants private, sensitive data)- read about
their stats here: https://www.icann.org/rdrs-en, read a blog about the
first stats here:
https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/rdrs-usage-metrics-17jan24-en.pdf
<https://www.icann.org/en/blogs/details/icann-launches-rdrs-releases-first-metrics-report-17-01-2024-en>
The most interesting part is that despite the arguments for the important
role of WHOIS to combat cybercrime and cyber attacks, requests from law
enforcement and CSIRT and even cybersecurity researchers is low. Which
player has the highest number of requests? IP lawyers.
There are calls for ICANN to do outreach to law enforcement to use a
system. If this was so vital, why are they not using it already?
What is RDRS Standing Committee: this is what we are going to cover during
the meeting - sounds like a benign group but sometimes some curious ideas
pop up
We will also create a link between this and DNS abuse conversation. Would
the contract amendment incentivize more registrars to opt in for RDRS?
See you soon
