Hi Colleagues,
As the nominated NCUC Reps to the 2022 NomCom, please do see a brief of the
progress of the 2022 NomCom.
The 2022 NomCom was tasked to select the following positions: 3 ICANN Board
of Directors, 1 PTI Board Member, 2 ALAC, 1 GNSO, and 1 ccNSO.
The call for application was published on the ICANN website and was shared
with the communities. The various medium was used to disseminate the call
and outreaches was intensified on all fronts.
To give room for more applications, the NomCom Leadership extended the call
more than once and that decision led to increasing in submitted
applications.
During the application process, the NomCom delegates were subjected to
different pieces of training which are not limited to leadership,
selection, and cybersecurity handled by an external firm that provides
leadership training to the ICANN board. This was because of recommendations
from the previous NomCom feedback. The aim of the training is to better
equip NomCom for the task of selecting the right candidates.
Now that the call for applications has ended. NomCom received a total
submission of 85 applications. Board position 64, PIT Board 12, GNSO 12,
ccNSO 10, and ALAC 7. Looking at the gender percentage, we had males 58%,
females 29%, and the rest is undisclosed.
Initial review and evaluation of applications are currently ongoing,
followed by a deep dive and candidate interview. The NomCom will be meeting
in a hybrid format. The reason is that some of the NomCom delegates won’t
be able to appear in person in Washington DC due to Visa issues. However,
adequate provision has been duly made by the ICANN travel support to
support delegates that cannot make it to Washington DC. The in-person
private meeting is arranged by ICANN with adherence to covid 19 principles
but none of the ICANN staff would be present to physically support due to
the pandemic. This was a voluntary decision to travel by the NomCom
delegates.
The next meeting is scheduled for June which to interface with the ICANN74
to enable NomCom to continue the selection process.
In a matter of hours, the NomCom delegates would be meeting to discuss the
applications received for the various ICANN leadership positions.
As you know that NomCom wears the hat of confidentiality, I would not be
able to go into details of the process, but I would be happy to clarify and
answer questions.
As we progress, I’ll keep coming back with more information.
Thank you for trusting me to represent you.
Enjoy the Weekend!
