Thanks all,
We still have time until Thursday if you want me to relay your
messages/comments to the CEO. So far, I have gathered the points below
(based on comments that came to my mind and members comments) but I might
not get to discuss everything. If you want to add to these comments or want
to prioritize one over another, let me know.
1. The CEO said: "The collaboration we have in Latin America & the
Caribbean is a model for the rest of the world” @icann_president
<https://twitter.com/icann_president> #ICANN
<https://twitter.com/hashtag/ICANN?src=hash> at #LACNIC27
<https://twitter.com/hashtag/LACNIC27?src=hash>.
What does LAC do that other region don't do? Why is regional collaboration
important at ICANN?
Do regions need to collaborate better or do stakeholder groups need to
collaborate better with those who hold different perspectives from their
own sector?
2. Question regarding Compliance. More and more people are coming to ICANN
to do more and more. It all sounds good: "anti-abuse," "law enforcement,"
"protecting copyright and trademark." But a lot of the requests amount to
massive limitations on Free Expression and Free Speech -- and procedurally,
bringing ICANN into the regulation of content. The Consumer Trust Review
Team recommendations, if adopted, would make ICANN into the greatest global
monitor of content ever.
Fadi flatly refused this role for ICANN - telling Washington, Wall Street and
the world that ICANN manages and oversees the infrastructure of the
Internet, but not what it is used for -- the roads, bridges and tunnels,
but not what is being carried within a car (his analogy).
With Goran, how does he see these enormous and very passionate pressures to
bring ICANN into the global content monitoring (and takedown) debate? What
will he do to protect the traditional lines and limits of ICANN? How does
that "square" with the work of Jaime Hedlund in Compliance and its
expanding role?
3. Remote Participation: Face-to-Face meetings challenges
4. CEO report to Board, More emphasis on the different role of Supporting
Orgs and Advisory Committees and a bit of background on what each group
does
5. A cross community session on General Data Protection Regulation: what
NCUC thinks
6. Meeting B: Not only a Policy Forum but a Policy and Outreach Forum
