As always, thank you for your guidance and I speak for Renata and I here when I
say we were both very glad you were available to confirm the placement of NCUC
identifications in the WSIS agenda and workshop materials for our session on 6
May. We hope outreach efforts in the NCUC only grow, and are encouraged to hear
that work is already underway on an outreach strategy for fiscal year 2017.

As note and with regard to referring to NCUC in events or conferences, I would
like to ask people to check with me and executive committee, coordinating with
us prior to mention NCUC or making any commitments. Such session should have relevance to NCUC activities and falling within our
outreach activities. The executive committee will help as much as possible, if
we found the proposal fits our outreach strategy.
For reference, NCUC usually organised workshops for the last years at Global IGF
and policy conference prior to ICANN meetings. Also elected officers and active
members do personal outreach efforts, including 1 to 1 meetings to bring new
members and inform about ongoing policies in ICANN.
We will issue a call for proposals soon for CROPP for the fiscal year 2017 which
starts this July. so please think about a conference or event you would like to
attend in your region and what kind of outreach activity you may propose there
e.g workshop .

Thank you for your comments and also for your active participation in the
thematic workshop on Friday. It was great to see so many faces at WSIS from
across the ICANN community, and to be able to assess from a distance the
embodiment (or not) of ICANN and NCUC principles in the different workshops,
round tables, and interactive sessions.
I have heard from numerous voices that we have set the stage for further NCUC
engagement in WSIS Forums in the years ahead. Perhaps next year we will be able
to 'crowd source' a theme and catalyse community involvement early on in a topic
which we as the NCUC care deeply about. We are uniquely positioned as the NCUC
to engage with individuals and organisations at WSIS who may not see how
involvement in ICANN-related activities is relevant to their work, when indeed
we may be their only relevant home. Our continued involvement in this Forum is
essential to deepening these ties and I hope the Executive Committee might
consider deepening our participation in WSIS through the inclusion of this
summit in our Strategic Outreach Plan for 2017.
Certainly Friday morning's session on ways to build engagement in Internet
governance debates at the local, national, regional, and global levels was
closely tied with Sustainable Development Goal 17 of the UN's 2030 Agenda for
Sustainable Development adopted in New York last September, and it is my view
that how the debate on this topic is re-framed or extended from here is
something we as the NCUC need to be a part of. It is great to have NCUC members
at WSIS, and there were many sessions where our members spoke eloquently about
ICANN activities and offered civil society perspectives on different topics. But
I consider it equally important to have NCUC members identifying as being a part
of our constituency and hosting sessions under our moniker. I hope this will be
the case again next year.
I am so grateful to Adam, Rafik and the EC for enabling my participation in the
Forum this year, and hope this is only the beginning of the NCUC's involvement
in creating and exchanging knowledge that helps realise the WSIS action lines.

It was great to see a bit of the regional engagement perspective being discussed
at WSIS.

I did not have a chance before to thank Ayden on the participation in the
Geographic Divisions public comment, which so many contributed and I believe it
was reflected in some of the debates in this session.

Do not miss also James Gannon on the chat tool those of us below the Equator
line use, Whatsapp and the effects of its repeated blockages in Brazil. Insights
which, to me, were immensely valuable to understand how groups can become
attached and even identifiable by a specific tool.

Michael Oghia`s report is great, as always, and the other NCUC-ers reporting
from WSIS this weeks made too great work.

I`d like to thank those who gave Ayden support on the preparation of this work
and, as a contributor, I think it opens the way for others to participate on
these events. It isn`t easy but much needed and worth it.

Yesterday the NCUC hosted a very successful thematic workshop at the World
Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) which brought into the public arena
discussions around what hinders new voices from participating in Internet
governance debates, particularly in the global south. Contributing to the rich
discussion were panelists from across the ICANN community, including three NCUC
members, who all greatly appreciated the opportunity to participate and to be
present with us.
If you were not able to participate in this session, the Geneva Internet
Platform and fellow NCUC member Michael Oghia have produced a wonderful summary
