[NCUC-DISCUSS] New CD Agenda: Visits of the US Government and the Council of Europe

The idea was that at London Constituency Day meeting Tuesday 24 June 9-12:30 BST we would do something a little different this time and focus on internal discussion rather than having visitors come and share views etc.  However, two opportunities popped up in the last couple days that have led to a shift.  First, I was contacted by the US government saying the entire delegation would like to come over and talk to us and hear our views on a range of issues, not limited to IANA.  In Singapore we had Larry Strickling and Fiona Alexander of the NTIA, but this time the State Dept. contingent including Ambassador Sepulveda would like to join as well.  This seemed like an offer we shouldn’t refuse.

Second, the Council of Europe has just yesterday released a report assessing ICANN policies and procedures from a human rights standpoint.  This is of course an idea that we have pushed for some time, especially when Joy Liddicoat was on the GNSO Council, often without others in the ICANN community quite understanding what we were talking about.  So I figured this is an initiative worth supporting, and talking about.  Thomas Schneider of the Swiss government and COE is one of the authors of the report, and he and Lee Hibbard, COE’s Internet governance coordinator, will come over to talk to us about the study and get our views.  Unfortunately, the report is really hot off the press and has yet to be posted to a URL, so I have no choice but to try and send it to you all as an attachment, via ncuc-discuss.  Apologies in advance if this doesn’t work out perfectly.  Presumably in the days ahead it will be posted to the web, but it would be ideal for us to have a look at it in advance of the discussion.

Hence, the revised agenda is below.  I would as always encourage members who cannot be here with us live in London to join via remote participation and add your thoughts to the conversations.  I would also encourage folks who are here to spread the word to civil society types and other friendlies in London or at ICANN who might be interested in joining us.
