[NCUC-DISCUSS] NCUC Election 2013

I would like to nominate Walid Al-Saqaf for Executive Committee,
Asia-Pacific region.

Many of you might know or heard of Walid, who has written extensively
on Internet censorship and circumvention issues in Yemen and the Arab
world.  I met Walid at the ICANN Beijing meeting which he attended as
an ICANN Fellow, where he expressed great interest in becoming more
involved in Internet governance and the work of NCUC.

Walid is eager to support efforts to promote freedom of expression and
human rights, as evident by his projects like Alkasir for Internet
Censorship Mapping and Circumvention, which is a platform used by
users in many countries including Syria and Iran to access blocked
websites.  He is also deeply engaged in an area of regional importance
to ICANN, having been recently elected as the Chair of the Internet
Society Yemen Chapter and serving on the MAG board of the Arab IGF.
Walid also brings broader connections as part of the Citizen Lab Cyber
Stewards Network and being a TED Fellow.

I think Walid would an excellent contributor to the EC if elected. You
