Dear friends,

as it was announced today, I was selected by the NomCom to fill the vacant position in the ICANN Board after Judiths resignation. This is just a one year term. 

When the NomCom approached me - it was just after I was elected by the NCSG as a GNSO Council member - I had to think about what to do.

In my statement for the NCSG election I outlined some plans what I want to do in case I will be elected to the GNSO Council. I reconsidered it when I was approached by the NomCom and concluded that to be member of the ICANN Board - even if it is only for one year - offers even greater opportunities to bring values, positions and interests of the non-commercial constituency - and here in particular the human rights dimension - into ICANN policies and decisions even if I have to work as an ICANN director - according to the ICANN Bylaws - for the benefit of ICANN as a whole.  

I understand that this will create another vacancy within the NGSG. NCSG has now to fill another NCSG seat in the GNSO Council. I am convinced that you will find a procedure to fill this gap as quick as possible. 

At this stage I can only say that I will continue to remain engaged this great NCUC community and will offer my help as much as I can. 

Feel free to contact me if you need a liaison to the Board at any time.
